Cargo Carrying Unit Inspection

Cargo Carrying Unit
GUC Ltd can provide your Container Carrying Unit (CCU) inspection and issue a worldwide recognised certificate for your equipment.

CCU can be categorised as follows:

  • Containers
  • 40/20/10/8/6 feet
  • ISO or offshore
  • Full, open top or half height
  • Baskets (long, subsea)
  • Gas cylinders / racks
  • Drill cuttings skips and waste skips

Our certified Inspectors will ensure the CCU family (All the above items) are inspected based on the following common international standards:

  • DNV 2-7-1 / DNV 2-7-3
  • EN 12079 / EN 13414 / EN 818
  • ISO 12079
  • BS 7072

The inspections to be carried out are:

  • Visual Inspection
  • Load Test
  • NDT of the structural points (lifting points, main structure)
  • Colour coding and tagging

Preferably, CCU, lifting points and lifting set are to be inspected at the same time (please refer to sections 'NDT' and 'lifting gears').

Crane Inspection

All Crane must be inspected annually as per OSHA standards

According to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), there are four categories for overhead crane inspections:

  • Initial
  • Functional
  • Frequent
  • Periodic.

Routine inspections can help identify potential problems and address them before a costly or irreversible incident occurs.

Proofload Test

Proof load tests can be performed on various pieces of lifting and rigging equipment, and are designed to ensure that the piece of machinery being tested is able to lift the design load without failure or deformation (yeliding).

Typically performed as a static pull test, the proof load test is considered a complementary test that provides structural and safety assurances.

Proof load tests are generally carried out on the following equipment:

  • Overhead cranes and supporting runways
  • Patient hoists
  • Motor vehicle lifts
  • Building cleaning cradle and suspension equipment
  • Goods and passenger lifts
  • Telehandlers and forklifts
  • Lifting accessories
  • Chain blocks
  • Web slings

Heavy Lift Test

Sling, chain sling, shackles, hooks, master links, forklift extensions, pallet bars, pallet forks, pallet racks, personal transfer basket, body harness.

Lifting Gears can be divided in to several different areas:

  • Lifting Rigging - wire ropes, wire slings, synthetic slings, chains, shackles, hooks, master links, snatch blocks, sockets etc.
  • Lifting Accessories - tri-plates, spreader bars / beams, forklift fork extensions, pallet bars, pallet racks etc.
  • Lifting Devices - winches, chain hoists, pull hoists, gantry, A-frames, davits etc.
  • Personnel Transfer Equipment - billy pughs etc.

The list above is a summary of the most common Lifting Gear used during onshore and offshore Oil & Gas operations. GUC Ltd can provide inspections on various other items upon request.

Your equipment inspection shall comply with international standards including but not limited to:

  • LOLER 1998
  • ISO 4301 / ISO 4306 / ISO 4309 / ISO 9373 / ISO 9927
  • API RP-8B / API RP-9B
  • ASME B 30
  • BS 1290 / BS 3841 / BS 6668 / BS 3551

Tests and inspections GUC Ltd provide can include but not limited to:

  • Visual - Close Visual Inspection of the general condition of the equipment
  • Destructive Test - breaking test
  • Destructive Test - MT, UT, ET, RT, PT etc

Periodic inspection of Lifting Gear is essential. Lifting cargo and equipment is one of the most critical operations during a whole project. Many industry injuries - both light and severe - occur during lifting operations.
