NDT Inspection

NDT Inspection

NDT INSPECTION

Non-destructive testing techniques can identify and gauge the properties of all kinds of materials and structures without causing any damage. NDT is an extremely useful technique as it in no way alters the part or structure under inspection and can lead to cost and time savings when applied to product evaluations, asset management and fault identification and repair.

GUC Ltd has an extensive range of tools and techniques to match every inspection challenge, from simple thickness measurement to fully automated inspections. We can mobilize units on short notice, ensuring a prompt and timely response.

We have multi-skilled inspectors certified to SNT level II I accordance to SNT-TC-1A in various NDT techniques such as MT, PT, ET, UT, VT, and RT. We achieve this following international society’s strict guidance and codes of practice like ASNT.

Do not hesitate to contact Gas and Utilities Company Limited (GC Ltd) for any or a combination of the following NDT services:

  • Magnetic Particle Inspection
  • Dye Penetrant Testing
  • Visual Examination
  • Ultrasonic Testing (both Thickness Gauging and Flaw Detection)
  • Radiography
  • Eddy Current Testing
  • Pressure Vessel Inspection
  • Pipeline Inspection
  • Storage Tank Inspection
  • Corrosion Control and Monitoring Mapping
  • Rig Inspection including Jack Up Rig Legs, Platform Rig etc.
  • Baseline Thickness Measurement and Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection

MPI is one of the most widely used NDT techniques and when applied properly can increase production reliability, reduce cost. It helps to detect discontinuities like cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, Hot tear, cold shuts etc.

Basic MPI procedures:

  • Pre-cleaning of component
  • Magnetic Field Introduction
  • Magnetic Media Application
  • Interpretation of Magnetic Particle pattern by experienced and qualified GUC Ltd technicians
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Magnetic Particle Inspection technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II MPT in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.

Dye Penetrant Testing

Also known as Penetrant Testing (PT) or Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) or Fluorescence Penetrant Inspection (FPI) and can be applied on non-porous material.

Basic PT procedures:

  • Surface Cleaning
  • Penetrant Application
  • Dwell Time
  • Cleaning of excess dye (method A, B, C or D)
  • Application of Developer
  • Inspection of Penetrant Testing by experienced and qualified GUC Ltd technicians
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Dye Penetrant Inspection technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II PT in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.

Visual Examination

Visual Examination is one of the most common methods of non-destructive testing, it relies on the adequate illumination of the test surface and on the eyesight of the technician.

VT can easily find and evaluate the following discontinuity types:

  • Cracks
  • Holes
  • Corrosion
  • Corrosion
  • Blisters
  • Impact damage
  • Most other discontinuities that are surface breaking or result in a deformation at the surface
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Visual Testing technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing qualified in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.

Ultrasonic Testing (both Thickness Gauging and Flaw Detection)

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) uses high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and make measurements. Ultrasonic inspection is used for flaw detection/evaluation, dimensional measurements, material characterization, and more.

Other ultrasonic testing solutions include time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD), guided-wave ultrasonics and ultrasonic phased array, among others, and these are fast becoming the industry standard in today's ultrasonic testing environment.

Ultrasonic testing may be used at any point in the life-cycle of an item, from inspection of plates, forgings, castings or welded components to in-service corrosion monitoring.

Ultrasonic testing is used by many industries including:

  • Food processing
  • Paper production
  • Oil and gas production and refining
  • Power generation
  • Aerospace
  • Maritime
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Ultrasonic Testing technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing qualified in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.

SNT Level II and III Electromagnetic Testing

Electromganetic Testing (ET) is the process of inducing electric currents or magnetic fields or both inside a test object and observing the electromagnetic response. If the test is set up properly, a defect inside the test object creates a measurable response.

Common methods include:
  • Eddy-current testing (ECT)
  • Remote field testing (RFT)
  • Magnetic flux leakage testing (MFL)
  • Magnetic particle inspection (MT or MPI)
  • Alternating current field measurement (ACFM)
  • Pulsed eddy current (PEC)
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Electromagnetic Testing technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II Electromagnetic Testing (ET) qualified in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.

SNT Level II and III Radiographic Testing

We examined many types of manufactured components to verify their internal structure and integrity. This method gives a permanent record, commonly used to detect internal flaws in weldments and castings and to check for mis-constructions in assemblies by using the ability of a short wavelength electromagnetic radiation (high energy photon) to penetrate the various materials.

Common methods include:
  • Film Radiography
  • Real Time Radiography (RTR)
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Digital Radiography (DR)
  • Computed Radiography (CR)
As a minimum, GUC Ltd Radiography Testing technicians are qualified inspectors to SNT Level II Radiography Testing (RT) qualified in compliance with SNT-TC-1A and possess multiple NDT qualifications.
